Why Autumn Is The Time For Skin Hydration Treatment
If ever there was a time to get a hydrating booster for your skin, autumn is it. People may think that after the warmer days of summer and the frequent wet weather that this is a more humid season, but in fact it is not.
Autumn is the worst time for dry skin because the cooler air contains less moisture than in warmer air, since there is less evaporation taking place. Dry air will take moisture from your skin. In addition, autumn is often windy and will blow the moisture off. Also, because it is colder your skin will produce less sweat and oil.
However, it is not just when you step outside that your skin is getting drier. The effects of turning on the heaters inside will make your home and workplace less humid, while hot baths and showers, although they may make you feel nice and warm on cold days, will wash away the natural oils your body produces.
The cold weather will also prompt you to wear clothes like scarves and woolly jumpers, which may keep you warm, but can also be abrasive.
As a result of all this, your skin can feel rough, flaky, tight and look red, all of which will confirm that it is dry.
You can use daily moisturisers and these will help somewhat, as will drinking more water, but a full facial hydration treatment will go a lot further.
The reason for this is that while moisturiser locks the existing moisture in, it won’t add to it. However, hydration treatment will absorb moisture from the air and trap it in your skin. So, while both trap moisture, only one of them will introduce extra moisture to your skin.
In conclusion, while you should certainly use moisturisers in your daily skincare routine through autumn and winter, a hydration treatment will do a lot more to help your skin look great and feel so much better.
