Top 4 Tips For Looking After Your Skin During The Summer

The summer months can give you a lovely glow, but it’s important to take good care of your skin to avoid any damage.

Here are some tips on taking care of your skin during the warmer months:

1) Protect against sun damage

Though you might want some colour on your cheeks when the sunshine finally arrives, it is essential to protect yourself against sun damage, as this can dehydrate as well as age you, and put you at highest risk of skin cancer.

Use an SPF 50 every day, even when it is cloudy outside. Make sure to reapply every couple of hours, especially if you’re swimming or you are likely to sweat it off quickly. If you’re wearing make-up, you can find spray sunscreens that are easy to apply without needing to rub in.

Do not forget to protect your lips, back of neck, and your ears as these are often overlooked.

Make sure to look for a suncream that protects against UVA and UVB rays, so you don’t become burnt, and avoid the sunshine in the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest.

2) Moisturise regularly

It is important to keep up with your moisturising routine during the summer, as your skin is more likely to become dehydrated in the heat.

Use a lightweight cream that isn’t heavy on the skin, with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin or aloe vera, as these lock moisture in.

If you apply moisturiser when the skin is wet, this helps it retain more water and keeps it looking fresh and supple.

3) Drink plenty of water

Not only should you keep your skin hydrated, but your body too. This is important for reducing dry patches, flakiness, and increasing elasticity, as well as avoiding symptoms of dehydration like headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

It is recommended to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, increasing this amount if you’re exercising a lot or the temperature is particularly high. You should also eat foods that have a high water content, such as watermelon, cucumber, and celery.

4) Skin hydrating boosters

Despite your best efforts, your skin can end up dry and lifeless in the summer, which is why skin hydrating boosters could be another option. These improve the skin’s hydration levels, reducing fine lines, boosting elasticity, and giving you the summer glow you want.
