How Often Should You Have Regular Botox Treatments?
When you book a consultation at our skin clinic, we will discuss your skincare goals, which treatments will get you the natural, beautiful results you are looking for, as well as how many treatments you need to reach that point.
Nonsurgical skin treatments such as Botox injections, dermal fillers and chemical peels are highly effective treatments, but to remain effective, they often need to be topped up regularly in order to ensure the effects do not wear off.
But how often should you have regular treatments? It is a common question we are asked, one that is particularly important and one that is not always easy to answer.
Generally, we space Botox injections out, with a follow-up appointment every three to six months around the time the treatment is beginning to wear off.
Exactly how long you should wait between treatments will depend considerably on the intensity of treatment and how quickly your body processes the treatment.
In particular, the following factors will affect how quickly or slowly the effects will fade:
- Age.
- Metabolism.
- Facial activity, particularly if you are an expressive or athletic person.
- Skin type.
- Dosage and area treated.
- Lifestyle factors, especially stress, smoking and sunbathing.
If you leave it too late, you will start to notice the treatment start to fade, but this is not a problem; either you can leave it or book another session to restore the look.
However, overtreatment can lead to some of the unwanted and unnatural effects that we aim to avoid at an aesthetic skin clinic. Botox should not look obvious, nor should it lead to a frozen look.
Ultimately, the best way to avoid this is to be conservative with the initial treatments and take a less-is-more approach. This lets you see how your face responds to it and allows your treatment to be more targeted to your aesthetic goals.
